1959 Season Report

With both Under 15 and Under 13 teams, it was a case of so near and yet so far. In their quest for honours. The Under 15s won their section of the league but were beaten by Buttershaw in the semi-final of the play-off. Barrett and P Holdsworth were the stars of the side and were members of the Bradford Schools’ team which were defeated finalists in the Yorkshire Schools’ Cup.

The Under 13s also won their section and proceeded to the final against Belle Vue at Lidget Green. Batting first, Grange reached a total of 81, which we thought might be just good enough, but one of the Belle Vue Boys stood firm while wickets fell at the opposite end, and a fine fifty from this player saw Belle Vue safely to victory with 4 wickets to spare. Les Cousins and Brian Hill bowled well and the fielding throughout the match by both sides was of a high standard.

1960 Season Report

The Under 15s had a good season but just not quite good enough. They won 7 league games out of 8 to top their section, beat Highfield in the semi-final, but lost by 17 runs in the cup-final against Tyersal. The Under 13s had a similar tale of woe to tell. They were undefeated leaders of their section, also beat Highfield in the semi-final, but lost by 4 runs in an exciting final game against Frizinghall. In charge of the Frizinghall team was John Broadbent (ex-Grange), so we feel that Grange had after all something to do with winning the trophy.

1961 Season Report

The Under 15s accomplished little. Members of the premier section of the Bradford Schools’ league, they won a mere 3 of 9 games played. Apart from one game against Belle Vue, the batting seemed reasonably sound, but it certainly looked as if the bowling lacked penetration, for our opponents topped the 100 mark on 5 occasions.

Congratulations to Leach (wicketkeeper) and Butterfield on being chosen for the Bradford Boys’ team. The First Team did hardly so well as we expected, winning2 and drawing 2 of its 8 matches. It included some good cricketers: Whittingham was a consistent opening batsman; Clark had a not-out 50 and Barrett had 2 big scores - and a number of little ones too! Boldy and Butterfield were 2 lively opening bowlers and Tordoff, the captain, bowled his off-spinners with intelligence and accuracy. The Second Team played only 4 games, winning 2.
